Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and accredited museum in Miami, Florida (www.vizcaya.org). Vizcaya Museum and Gardens seeks a graduate student to create and update existing records in our Collections Management System (CMS). In this fully remote position, the intern will work on one of several possible projects to catalog portions of the archival collections and create associated metadata. Projects include correlating historic records with their descriptive metadata and updating catalog records in our CMS, creating new catalog records and metadata for historic correspondence, and transforming digital surrogates for ingest, and updating catalog records with condition assessments and editing object photography for ingest into our CMS. This internship is on the Engagement & Cultural Resources Team in the Art & Artifact Stewardship Department, and reports to the Museum Archivist.

Essential Functions
- Creation of descriptive metadata in accordance with Vizcaya's digitization plan
- Editing of Archival Item records in Vizcaya's Collections Management Software (CMS) to aid in discoverability
- Depending on project selected, editing photographs and/or transformation of digital objects for ingest into the CMS.

Learning Opportunities - Intern will work closely with the Museum Archivist of a historic house museum.
- Intern will learn to work with digital primary-source textual records.
- Intern will learn to navigate a CMS and create metadata that will allow for enhanced accessibility.
- Intern will learn about digital formats and how to ingest material into a DAMS/CMS environment.
Position Requirements - Graduate student in library and information science, public history, museum studies, the humanities, or related discipline
- Interest in collections management, archives, and historic preservation
- Strong organizational skills, especially to track individual files and their status.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Ability to accurately manage files and tasks through verbal and written instructions.
- Experience in Photoshop or photo editing software is preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Demands This position is completely remote and requires work with a computer. A stable and secure internet connection is required, as well as a semi-private workspace. Remote work will involve virtual interaction with museum colleagues via video calls, audio calls, email, and instant messaging apps. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Schedule This is a part-time temporary internship (10-20 hours per week) for 10 consecutive weeks for a total maximum of 144 hours, to be scheduled during the summer semester. The intern will work during regular office hours; weekly hours are flexible but must coincide with department office hours (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
