Role Overview

The Director of Marketing Planning is a proactive, strategic, and results?oriented leader who orchestrates efficient stewardship of resources, optimization of processes, and on?time, on?budget delivery of impactful marketing campaigns in support of the American Cancer Society's mission. This critical and collaborative role ensures alignment of marketing efforts with department goals through effective work planning, agile marketing methodologies, and rigorous executional discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Develop a High?Performing Project Management Team (30%)
    • Hire, mentor, and inspire a team of marketing project managers, fostering a culture of proactive communication, seamless collaboration, and shared accountability to ensure efficient workflow and knowledge sharing.
    • Ensure the team delivers projects on time, on budget, and with autonomy.
    • Provide regular feedback and conduct performance reviews.

  • Proactive Resource & Capacity Leadership (25%)
    • Develop and champion comprehensive marketing planning frameworks and processes that capture and codify incoming needs to better align and prioritize with organizational strategic objectives.
    • Lead the proactive planning and strategic forecast allocation of marketing resources across multiple business portfolios to identify required talent and ensure optimal resource allocation.
    • Drive integrated team efforts to critically assess and prioritize incoming project requests based on strategic impact and resource availability, anticipating potential conflicts and developing proactive mitigation strategies.

  • Optimize Resources & Drive Operational Excellence (25%)
    • Establish and own the generation and insightful analysis of overarching marketing operational performance and efficiency reports.
    • Leverage analytical expertise to proactively identify systemic inefficiencies and opportunities for significant streamlining and automation across key marketing workflows.
    • Define and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to continuously monitor and optimize operational effectiveness, driving measurable improvements in output and resource utilization.

  • Anticipatory Risk Mitigation & Contingency Planning (20%)
    • Identify, assess, and strategically mitigate potential resourcing and project risks, issues, and bottlenecks with a forward?thinking approach.
    • Lead the development of robust contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges, ensuring proactive problem?solving and balanced resource allocation.



Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelors Degree.
  • Project Management Certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of project management experience in a marketing department, organization, or agency.
  • Experience managing direct reports and multiple complex projects within a fast?paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and cross?functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong understanding of integrated marketing campaign execution across digital, video, social, and traditional media.
  • Proficiency with project management tools, Microsoft Office suite, and data?driven decision making.

Travel Requirements
  • Requires travel by air or car when necessary.

Physical Requirements
  • Work performed in a typical interior/office environment.
  • Limited physical effort and exposure to physical risk.


Compensation

Starting rate is $105,000 to $115,000 annual. Final offer will consider relevant experience and skills.
